Antivir

Yesterday my PC lost it's Java skript funktion. In the system information everything was OK. Still when I was online the skript wasnt working. I tryed to fix it - but I could not. So I installed win XP new. (it was planed to do so end of the next week - now I did it erlyer)

After the instalation I installed Zonealarm and Antivir. Everything was running well till I updated Antivir. Than the Javaskript was gone again... The only way to fix it - Install win XP new (buit in this situation it wasn't such a problem).

Of course I didn't use Antivir at the moment. I found an interesting programm called Comodo Antivirus. I never heard about before. At the moment I give it an go.

Link: Comodo Antivirus

Does someone has expirience with this programm?

Re: Antivir

Wow..

Did you try and just uninstall/reinstall java ?
http://webct.ipfw.edu/troubleshooting/uninstalljava.shtml

I had to stop using ZoneAlarm a couple of years ago because it interfered with too many other programs.
It also became more and more invasive of my operating system.

I started using Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall instead, and am happy with it.
It's not as good as the old versions of Zone Alarm, but it's better than the more recent versions of Zone Alarm.

Whenever I have java problems, if I have to reinstall java I will also reinstall Flash & Shockwave .
I don't know why this helps, but it does.
I think Flash and Java are similar to each other and become corrupted at the same time.

Flash & Shockwave are always becoming corrupted for me anyways for some unknown reason.
I usually have to renstall both of them every couple of weeks.
I think they are both not very stable to begin with.
The same is true about Java ... it is fragile and easily corrupted/damaged.

I know AVAST. It's very good in finding Boot Virusses. But it tells me very often that datas are infected with a virus who definately aren't. That the reason I don't like it so much.

Today I was very successful at ebay. I bought steganos internet security for only 1 € and 2€ postage emoticon . It was in the wrong category. I never worked with it before but it is recomented in a lot of PC journals. So lets see how it works -3 € aren't so much.....

!@#$ "Anti Persoanl Worm". I got it and I can't get rid of it on my menu bar. My brother purchased a download, this night, of Kaspersky because we are using a trial version now. Damn. I hope we did the right thing.
I should have went with the free Avasti like you recommended.

Re: Antivir

Not necessarily..
Kapersky is one of the highest rated AV products there is... and has been for several years.
Another huge advantage of having a quality paid-for AV over a free one is that you should now have access to free support and technical help form Kapersky..
Free AV programs - in general - will have very limited help/support by comparison.

I'm not familiar with 'Anti Personal Worm' .. give me more details..
Are you getting re-directs and/or popups?
Has it hijacked your browser homepage?
Are you getting any error messages?

Can you run 'SpyBot Search & Destroy'?
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

I would download and run CCleaner as well..
Let it delete your browser cookies and browser temp files..
http://www.ccleaner.com/

Both are freeware.

I use spybot s & d and CCleaner for years, on Len's recommendation, and really feel safe, not to mention absolutely zero trouble so far *knocks on wood* hee.

Re: Antivir

I've been using FREE products for over 5yrs now and not had a single problem or attack. For Anti-Virus I use AVG (used to use AVAST) For Firewall (I'm using XP Pro) I use Zone Alarm Free Edition. Spyware, I use SuperAntiSpyware which to date I think is the best spyware catcher and cleaner on the market today.

It caught stuff which Spybot and Adware SE missed !!

Well worth a look and maybe a trial run

Link: http://www.superantispyware.com/index.html

If you have a tool bar which has hikjacked your browser then you should try CWShredder. This is a program that is very small but very effective. Works better if you run it in Safe Mode but can run in normal mode too
