Fifty-two years ago...
Fifty-two years ago on 4 October 1957, when both of my parents were in the U.S.Army and stationed in Stuttart Germany, they were called on red alert. History was made that day when the then Soviet Union launched man's first artificial satellite--Sputnik. Other than Russia's top officials and some scientists no one knew what they were up to. There was fear that the Soviet's might drop bombs from space, or that it was some kind of surveillence thing. Well, as you might already know now, it was nothing more than a metal sphere that circled the earth that beeped. But, considering the tension of the times, I think I would have been a little suspicious. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sputnik
