Death of my CRV...

...I was on my way to get my oil changed at my mechanics(I had a coupon) and my check engine light came on. So I when I got there I said I was there for an oil change but could they please check the engine as my engine light was on. I was expecting a big repair because a check engine light NEVER comes out well. Well according to the garage ALL I needed was spark plugs as well as my oil change,so all was fine for about 140 miles then all HELL broke loose! R was driving to work and the CRV just went crazy,ALL of the dash lights came on and she made this horrible noise,so he pulled off the highway and ended up in the hospital emergency lane. So two hours later my Mom and I got to where he was,and put TWO quarts of oil into her as she had NONE. We limped over to a shopping centre that is next to the hospital so we could park in a well lit area. Still making the horrible noise. So the next day the garage went over and towed it back to the garage. According to them the temperature gauge blew and that is why there was no oil, antifreeze or water in my beloved CRV. My family's big question is WHY did the garage NOT see that there was a problem with the temperature gauge the FIRST time she was in there service bay!? They hook up the cars up to a computer reader so HOW in Goddesses name did they MISS it? When the gauge blew it blew a hole in the side of the engine block. So that is the sad story of the demise of my beloved CRV. We are going to sue the garage, but I don't hold out much hope of them saying YES it was our fault and we will pay for a new rebuilt engine or buy you a replacement car. emoticon

What idiots.
That's horrible.
Is there anything in their guaranty that can help?
I know what they're going to do.. they'll say there was an existing problem.. that you came in for an oil change.
But they SHOULD have picked up the problem.
They always run the car for a minute after an oil change to check for a leak at the oil drain plug.
Obviously they didn't.

Go after them.. they might settle without admitting guilt to make you go away..

Re-built Honda motors are amongst the highest quality there are..
They cost a lot, but not as much as a decent used car would.

Maybe your insurance coverage has something in it to help? Or if you belong to AAA, they might be able to help you deal which the idiots at the garage..
I know my CAA Platinum coverage offers free legal advice..

What idiots though. That's a tough break Kate.
