In Repose Miss Pixel
My dear friend Pixel passed away last Thursday the 27th. It has been very hard for me to talk about it, she was with us 26 years, nearly half our lives. She has been the only adult cat the kittens knew since they came to us 9 months ago. When Baby died and Buddy went missing that awful week last August, Pixel decided to move along to her next life. She stopped eating and drinking and yet continued to ask for attention, brushing and companionship from us mere humans. I called her the cat who lived on air. Then about a week after we lost Buddy, I was at petsmart to try to find something that would tempt her to eat. Little did I realize it would be 3 tiny kittens! The boys caught her heart and she began eating and drinking again, to watch them grow and give them the benefit of her long experience with life. They gave her the will to stay 9 more months. Last Monday she was weak but eating her customary fancy feast . Then Tuesday, she was scarcely eating and drinking again, by Wednesday nothing at all. We stayed up with her late that night, but i was exhausted and went to bed at 2 am. Jack stopped by her basket at 0430 and talked to her, sang her her little song and she looked up at him and seemed to enjoy his company, then put her head down on the side of her basket so he went on to bed. When I woke up and checked her at 7, she must have passed on shortly after Jack said goodnight to her. We covered her with fresh snapdragon blooms and other flowers so she would have some of the outdoors with her she had not been able to enjoy for many months and put her body to rest.

Re: En Repose Miss Pixel
I'm so sorry to hear about Pixel, Patricia. Pixel's been with you for so long, it must seem really strange not having her around anymore. I hope you can take some comfort in the fact that she had such a long and happy life, and that you got to share so many years with her. It sounds like she was happy and contented right up to the last, and she'll have been in no doubt as to how much you loved her. She certainly landed it lucky when she found you.
There's nothing anyone can say that will make it any less heartbreaking, and only those who have been blessed enough to share their lives with pets will have any idea how hard it is to lose one. I'm not surprised you're finding it difficult to talk about, and my thoughts are with you. It might not feel like it just now, but you'll find that you eventually only think of the happy times you had with her, and you'll feel happy when you think of her rather than sad.
It seems unfair that the more you love a special friend, the more heartbreaking it is when they have to leave. I'm sure Pixel will be eternally grateful to you for everything you've given her, and the memories of all the special times will be well worth all the heartache.

Tanzy just did a far better job of conveying what I want to say than I ever could.
I'm sorry for your loss, it's always hard when you loose such a close friend.

I absolute agree with Tanzy. She found the right words. Much better than I can do.
It's very hard to lose a cat-friend. But she has had a geed tima on your side.

I'm sorry for your loss Patricia.
It's like losing a member of the family.
I know that feeling only too well.

Re: En Repose Miss Pixel
Thanks all for your thoughtful words and caring. We miss the old Queen and have been comforted by the new guard, the 3 brothers. Right now, I dont know what to say but here it is. Shortly after Pix passed over the bridge, the boys were discomfited but seemed to be all right. Gus had been especially close to her. In the days after his mood seemed to rise and fall and we trie to give them all more attention and comfort but especially him. This past week however he became more and more withdrawn. He seemed depressed to me but just in case we took him to the vet Monday. After a few minutes the vet showed me his normally bright pink lips, gums and ears were blanched nearly white. Expensive tests show what the vet was certain of, he has severe anemia. There are some other abnormalities involving the liver, elevated white cells, and some tests to be back tomorrow. We take him in tomorrow for x rays, hoping it is a mycoplasm infection or hookworms and while they are horrid enough, can be treated. Cancer would be devastating. Its awful when you actually want the doc to say things like hookworms... Gus is not yet 12 months old and a few weeks ago was happy and playful. He's been sleeping 22 hours a day and doesnt move except for a few bites of food and a trip to the litter box. _Please wish my poor boy good health and the strength to get there. Thanks. I just cant believe this is happening again.

That's such a shame ~ I really hope it is something they can treat and he makes a quick recovery. There are a lot of things that could cause those symptoms, so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed it's nothing too devastating. I really hope everything works out ok.

Re: En Repose Miss Pixel
well its not going well. Frasier gave his blood about 10 days ago and the blood count has just edged down again. last PCV (packed cell volume) was 10% after a high of 18 post transfusion. they eliminated all causes we can treat, left with a bone marrow disease. understandably I have been focused on not much else, my stupid FB games are barely a distraction. but we keep dosing him with the various meds ordered as a stopgap while waiting something definite. he goes tomorrow for another PCV test. if its down then we may send him over Rainbow Bridge then, as he looks tired, uncomfortable and very pale. Miss Pixel can handle it from there. please keep him in your prayers, he needs all the help he can get. thanks all.

Re: En Repose Miss Pixel
Your prayers and get well wishes helped Gus have a few more days with his brothers. The steroids helped him feel better and he was able to love on his bros a bit and get some kitty love in return, even tho he didnt feel like playing. he also sat in the window and watched the birdies and squirrels doing their antics. but we could tell he was weaker and felt a bit worse, so when the bad news came back from Mondays blood test, we were ready to help him across Rainbow Brodge where Pixel was waiting for him. He was one day shy of a year old and officially being a grown up cat. Thanks all for you kindness and think of Niles and Frasier, his brothers who especially now need your good thoughts sent their way.

Re: In Repose Miss Pixel
I could say the obvious things like "Look for the positive" or" That it was for the best..." Stupid things like that, but nothing can ever replace what you have lost Patricia, only that your hurt will only be different in the coming days.
